Carving
a Sacred Pipe
In
this workshop you will learn how to choose the stone, cut
the stone and carve the pipe, all of the tools you will need
will be available for you to use.
We
know that you could just read the instructions page on the
site, but we also know that a hands on environment is much
better in case you have questions or are having problems.
Chuck will walk you through the methods of making different
pipes, and also the way the different woods for the stems
are crafted.
There
are also various myths about making a pipe and how to handle
the stone which will be clarified.
During
this workshop you will make a pipe yourself. Chuck will be
there for you but you will be left to work alone. If you have
a particular style of Pipe that you envision making Chuck
will guide you through it. Otherwise you will have the choice
of crafting a Plains or an Elbow style.
This
is a one day workshop, with the maximum of 3 people participating
in each session.
Please give weekend dates that you would be able to participate
and we will contact you with the date we have
booked you in.
A
donation will be asked from each participant to cover costs
and to help with the upkeep of the Center. This will be entirely
up to each person to give what they think is suitable.
The
presenter of the workshop is Chuck Derby, Please see here for his bio
It
is recommended that you take the workshop 'The Sacred Pipe' before embarking on this venture. A Pipe is not just an item
that is used to smoke tobacco, you will find while you are
carving it that it will be working with you to discover it
within the stone. It will be useful for you to understand
the responsibility that holding a Pipe entails. 'The Sacred
Pipe' workshop will give you a huge insight into the relevance
of the Pipe. ('The
Sacred Pipe' workshop can be taken on-line if it would
be easier)
As
someone who has made a pipe many years ago with one
on one lessons with Chuck, I can tell you from first
hand knowledge that you will enjoy the experience, and
your pipe will be even more special to you because you
have put your own energies into making it. - Gloria
