Back
in the 1970s, 80's and 90's groups formed to give Parents a
way to help themselves by coming together to discuss their problems.
It was a good way for them to meet others who had the same problems
as they had, it gave them the ability to be among other people
rather than be lonely at home, and often there was a professional
on hand for more in depth help.
In the
late 90's these groups began phasing out because the internet
came to the fore, this was an easy way for the people who would
have used the groups to get in touch with people without leaving
their homes. However these internet groups couldn't give the
same assistance and friendship as the old groups could do. Parents
Count decided to be the same as the old groups, they started
one in Trenton NJ and others are being planned in NJ, NY and
PA.
