38 + 2 Memorial Ride 2017
December
17th 2017 - Day 8
Today
is the 8th day of the Ride and after a rest in
Flandreau they are bringing the Ancestors back
home to Minnesota today. They ride just 17 miles
to Pipestone where the horses will be housed at
the Pipestone Corral. The Riders will be fed dinner
by Alice Erickson, Marge DR, and the team of annual
helpers at the American Legion. (The Little Feather
Center has closed and so they had to find a new
venue).
At
6:30 the riders are giving a presentation at
the Living Word Church in Marshall, and then
will return to sleep at the Flandreau Royal
River Casino and Hotel.
Breakfast
tomorrow morning will be back in the Legion
in Pipestone.
Thanks
to all in Pipestone for continued support. Chuck
would be proud.
The
photo is of the Three Maidens at the National
Monument in Pipestone.
The
next photo is of the Riders at the National
Monument in Pipestone in 2010. It was cold and
snowy. I am the woman in the green coat. It
was my honor to be there on behalf of my late
husband Chuck who passed that August. He loved
the Ride and what it stood for, Alice Erickson
(his sister) and I promised him before he passed
that we would continue supporting the Ride for
as long as we could. After my year's traditional
mourning period I returned back home to England
in 2011, and have continued working on the Ride
from here. I feel it is my sacred duty to do
so. I cannot go back on a promise to my beloved.
Alice and their family continue to feed and
take care of the Riders and support people.

Morning prayers and smoke up!
May the "seeds" that were planted in
Jim Miller, continue to flourish thru all, continuing
to be the beauty of healing and reconciliation
between all! Riders, you are sacred teachers and
messengers for us! Much gratitude, honor, and
respect.
May the fresh beginning of today find you surrounded
by spirit above, below, and within. May every
step of your day be protected, loving, honored,
and respected.
Love and blessings to all

When we illuminate the road back to our

THE FIRST TIME I EVER HEARD OF ANY OF THE HEALING
& RECONCILIATION RIDES SUCH AS THE DAKOTA
38 + 2 & THE FUTURE GENERATIONS/BIGFOOT MEMORIAL
RIDE WAS IN 2013 WHEN I WORKED ON SOMETHING CALLED
"THE UNITY RIDE." I helped raise funds
for the Unity Ride, and helped manage that Facebook
Page.
I remember being on a conference phone call with
many folks from New York who were helping bring
the Unity Riders from Manitoba, Canada to the
United Nations in New York. Because I was in a
location where I could remotely post about the
Unity Ride as it was occurring, (kind of like
Gloria Hazell Derby does for the Dakota 38 + 2
Memorial Ride Supporters, but a little bit different),
I offered to also help manage that Facebook page.
I remember that I called Chief Golden Light Eagle
to check-in about it first. He taught me a lot
on that phone call, and said if The Unity Ride
did indeed resonate with my heart, then yes, proceed.
So, I proceeded and this is where I initially
starting working with folks like Helena Mazawasicuna
& Pua Case.
Something
controversial happened with the funds that were
raised, however, and it was so disconcerting to
a lot of folks involved that now the Unity Ride
page doesn't even exist. To me, that page was
really the best Archive of it, but I understand
why it's not online anymore. I only have a couple
of posts referring to it on my own page.
Truthfully,
I kept posts about The Unity Ride off my personal
Facebook page because I didn't feel like going
through a bunch of racial & cultural prejudice
at the time about my role with it. I was going
through enough already, and I didn't feel like
making myself more of target than I already was.
Here's
a link to one: https://goo.gl/Jjb8mE.
I do know, however, that the most popular photo
on the page was of Gus Higheagle addressing the
UN. I took a screenshot of him while he was doing
that, and posted it, and the last time I saw the
stats on that page, that photo had over 55,000
views, which was quite significant for us at that
time. I also know that there was a Memorial Ride
for Gus Higheagle this past year, and that makes
my heart smile very much.
THE RIDES ARE IMPORTANT TO ME & ARE LITERALLY
HEALING IN ACTION. OUR NATION NEEDS HEALING; SUPPORT
THESE RIDES.
