Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial Ride 2021
December 26th

Prayer for Today

I am so grateful that I got to serve such honorable and giving people. learn more about the history of the Dakota. to be a very small piece of honoring those who came before us. I hope to be a larger part in the future,of remembering- educating more and giving more. May your journeys home be swift and go smoothly. May the née year bring you all love light and peace!

A Share from 2019:

I shared this information before but thought I would share again as a reminder that all the seeds of love, peace and reconciliation planted by the riders and supporters through their sacrifice has taken root and is flowering. Many years ago as we were checking into the Best Western Hotel in Mankato on Christmas Day, the desk clerk said she had a question. She wanted to know about the event and said she watched the riders coming through every year. She wondered why? After sharing with her why she looked at me in disbelief and said oh no, I've lived here all my life and never heard about the hangings. She also added that she couldn't believe that her community would do this. Since that time Minnesota's greatest secret has risen to the surface. There was a time when we worried about where to share a meal. Now the area churches come together to nourish the weary travelers with an awesome Christmas dinner and another feast at the conclusion of ceremony on December 26th. We are so grateful to the Mankato and area churches for sharing the love with all of us.
Alberta Jim Miller is with David Laughlin and Jamey VanGelder.

Today the Ride will leave Land of Memories park and head to Reconcilliation Park in Mankato for 10 am, for Ceremony along with the Dakota 38 Memorial Runners from Fort Snelling. (They will have been running all night to get to the hanging site for 10 am.)

The Ride will go 4 miles today. A total of 325 miles

Well done to all of the Riders and Horses, for reaching your goals.

Thanks to all of the support crew who have helped along the route.

Thanks Josette and your team for getting food where it is needed and keeping the People safe.

This is the final Ride day for 2021, Afer doing this since 2008 I still get that same sad feeling on the last day. It's like leaving friends behind, on those cold South Dakota/Minnesota streets, for another year. I do keep everyone, Riders, Horses, helpers, all of those who fed the People along the route, all of those who ensured the trusty steeds were cared for at every stop, all of those who said prayers along the whole route, all of you who sent lovely words and photos in to the group, and all of the 8,500+ supporters in this group, in my heart though knowing that I will get to be in the same place, same space, the following year. That takes the sadness away, and I feel content again. Thank you for being involved in this Historic Ride each year, and I hope to see you here, same time, same place in 2022. Mitakuye Owasin

Now I need to thank everyone who has donated food and supplies, hay, toys for the kids, their buildings to house the riders, and their corals, land, and stables for the Horses. Also their time to make this unbelievable Ride the best it can be for the Rider's, Horses, support team on the road, and those following where-ever they may be.

Thanks to the photographers who send in their art work so that we can follow the Ride in a wonderful way. Thanks to Ron who makes another artwork from those photos every day, Thanks to the driver's who stay with the Riders for safety on the road, all of the cooks in towns and cities along the route, the farriers that have supplied their time and effort to care for the horses. Thanks Josette and your team for all of the arrangements you have made, the food that you have magicked up on the road, and the questions that you have dealt with. I appreciate everything that you do.

Thanks also to my Admin Team who allow me the time to get these web pages out each day. Just today we had over 150 people asking to join, that all takes time as we check each person to make sure they are real, have the same interests and are in the same mind as the rest of us in the group does. I can see that there are still over 30 awaiting acceptance.

Lastly thanks to Jim for having the Vision of this Ride in the first place. I bet you never dreamed it would become as popular around the world as it has. I personally thank you and Alberta for having faith and trust in me, a non-native, living in the UK, to do the right thing when it comes to the FB Group.

Stay safe my friends. You are loved by millions around this earth.

This entire undertaking is one of fierce bravery and extraordinary commitment to honoring our collective past in such a powerfully tangible way.
Respect and love to the riders, horses, and entire crew who supports them whether daily or as they pass by you. Gratitude for Gloria and her support team, as well, and thank you for sharing some of the history of your journey in preserving each run so beautifully for the world to see. Thanks to all the photo-journalists who also contribute images of the ride - it is amazing to see this unfold through your eyes (and lens).
We. Are. Still. Here.

In these COVID 19 Days that we are surviving in this message for the Runners.

34th Annual Mankato Run honoring the Dakota 38.
We strongly advise everyone who comes be vaccinated.
If you feel sick stay home.
Stay with your car and/or group.
Wear masks when you are around people outside your group or in crowds
Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer often
This is a spiritual run. Grassroots. We don’t have any non profit or any organization. Just ordinary people coming together to remember and honor the Dakota 38.
We will be in prayer the entire run. We will start and end with ceremony. We will be protected through those prayers.
But we never know what could happen. So come at your own risk. We are not liable for any accidents or illness.
Travel safely. Use your intuition

As we rest on this merry day, I m rolling through the last few days and it’s not possible not to think and not to be with the 38 Dakota warriors who were sitting starving and freezing in jail here in Mankato MN on this very same day 159 years ago.
And let’s remember some names here, those warriors were loved had families had pride! Mats Bomisu, Wapa duty,Wahena, Swa Mani, Dowan niye, Xunka Ska, Hepan, Tunkan I have ta Mani, Ite Duta, Henry Milord, Baptiste Campbell, Hypolite Auge, Take Kage, Hogan Inku…

Thinking of you all and prayers for the Mankato Run to honor the 38+2 and trips home. It has been hard not to be there with you all these last few years. But still like clock work, I have an energy shift and focus in on you all getting ready to run. It is hard to sleep. For me it’s like the same shift in being when I would go with the Black Horse Camp to Bear Butte. Each of the Runs and times at Mankato with the Fire Keepers was always so moving, I hold you all in my being, my heart and prayers now even when I can’t be there.
