Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial
Ride 2018
Day 3
The photo above is
of Dakota, Apistoka, one of the women forced marched to Fort
Snelling, this photo was taken there. We had this photo displayed
in a Dakota 38 exhibit at our Little Feather Center, (Pipestone)
many years ago and I was amazed at how many people stood just
looking at the photo with tears in their eyes, or actually crying.
The people, mostly women who were imprisoned in Fort Snelling
are listed on this web page. HERE

This is the Exhibit
we used to have in the Center, this was back in the early 90's.
You can see Apistoka on the left, I had put a shawl around the
photo, because I felt she was feeling the cold. On the tiny
shelf under the photos people would leave tobacco offerings,
or small items, Apistoka always got more than the others. You
will see some of the others in the photo on the web page this
year.

This
photo of the Little Feather Center was taken on the Ride
a few years ago, notice the same people on the walls, and
Keith and Josette at the table. (see both of them in the
photo in the middle of this page) |

The Soul of a Horse and
the Soul of a Man are almost identical, they are each made from
Stardust, once you are intimate with a horse with one horse ,
exchanging breath blowing each on the other, you will be connected
to all horses. In the eye of a Horse you can see many things,
the beginning of the World and the red glow of its ending, and
all this the horse knows and more as well, How many of our Warriors
felt the anguish of their ponies falling in the sand, its nostrils
blood red, staining the Earth, So many died this way, and massacred
by white mans greed, Did they die with regret you ask?? No they
died with Valor and Nobility of Heart, and with acceptance of
what is and was and what will ever be, Today these same ponies
walk with the riders, blowing their sacred breath into the cold
of a winters day, snorting and prancing, talking in horse talk
to their brothers. Telling them stories of where the grass still
grows belly deep and how they run still in high chaparral, and
drink long and deep from cold rivers., and what it is to be free,
running in the wind. Today I send a prayer, to where the Sun goes
down, the place of horse and its beginning, Be with us now . and
forever, Written for the 38+2 Memorial riders a few years ago
by me. Nancy Raven Kohn---- sending you my prayers for this year

This is already the third year that I follow the memory ride.
I hope by posting your memory Ride to reach people in my country
as well. So that they learn what a sad tragedy has happened here.
Many people here, do not know the history of Indigenous People.
