Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial Ride 2017

10th December 2017

Good morning all. Today is the first day of the Ride and they leave the Lower Brule and go 11 miles to Fort Thompson, Dam Memorial Site.

Breakfast this morning was done by Mark and Shirley, (other food over the past couple of days was done by the Lower Brule Episcopal Church) Food during the day and tonight will be at Fort Thompson.

The horses will stay at Fort Thompson Rodeo Grounds Coral and the Riders will stay at Fort Thompson Hotel.

Thanks go to all of the people who are helping in Fort Thompson and also to those who helped at Lower Brule for the past few days as the Riders gathered. This includes the Golden Buffalo Hotel and Convention Center and the Lower Brule Rodeo Grounds Coral. More details tomorrow.

I'm sorry if this isn't allowed, but I joined this group because of gratitude.

I'm from Buffalo, New York. My father and grandmother were Seneca, or Onondowaga. They both passed away before they were 50 because of health issues and addiction. I live in Arkansas now, far from home. I understand what it is like to be removed (a long story) from home and family. I found the smoothfeather productions video of the first ride in 2008 in 2013, and I wept and grieved and learned.

I joined this group to thank you all for doing this. For the gratitude. For the humility. For the love. Thank you to all of the first riders, and to all of the riders that have ridden in the last 9 years. Thank you all for doing the work to let us share in this experience, in this healing.

I'm not Lakota, but I'm moved in love and gratitude for the work y'all are doing. I appreciate it so much and wanted to send out my love and the healing and safe keeping of my Creator to be with y'all on this ride.

Stay safe and warm. Many thanks and love.
