A Museum to honor the least known people in North America, the Original Tribal Women

Tourist Art or Whimsies - page 2

I am hoping to get a lot of these whimsies so that a good display will be in the museum. Right now I only have a few, and I hope you will enjoy looking at them. I think they are fascinating. If you would like to see more there is a great website that gives URL's of other museums that have whimsies. Mostly run by the Iroquois Nation.

This is the back of the pink Niagara Falls bag on the previous page. Many of the whimsies have birds designs, this is one of them
Another bird design on a pincushion. On this one the bird has a dropper coming from its beak maybe to represent a worm.
This is another pincushion that is dated 1880. It again has the bird design, The velvet has dulled in its color but the beadwork is still fine.
This is another favorite design, a boot. Some of the larger ones had an opening in the top maybe to hold scissors
Another boot with lavish beadwork on it, in this example you can see the depth of the beading. Again the bird shows itself on this example.
An unusual pincushion in the shape of an armchair, the purple material has lost it's depth but the beading featuring birds and flowers is still exquisite
This pincushion has an effigy of a bear on it
This pincushion has a leaf pattern
