one of our
young Riders Shelly Bausch, passed over to the other side to
Ride there. This page is to honor, to thank, and to show her
that we care.

On behalf of our riders, families and supporters we extend our
sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the family of Shelly
Bausch . From the conversations that different riders had with
Shelly immediately after her fall, we know that she leaned over
to adjust her stirrup and fell off the mule. She received immediate
medical attention and the cut in her head required 15 stitches.
She returned to the Community Center, shared a meal with the
riders and attended the presentations. She was happy and reassured
everyone that she was okay. So when we heard about her passing
on the way home the shock was great.
Late last night the rider community
called for a prayer circle to share the news and to offer prayers
for Shelly. Most naturally in our human way we want to question
why? Could it have been prevented? However, as spiritually minded
people we know and are reassured that Creator picks the time
of our arrival and the time of our departure. Creator allowed
Shelly to have her last ride and placed her in the company of
a loving, compassionate and supportive community. Please keep
us advised of her funeral arrangements. We will continue to
hold her in our hearts and in our prayers.

from Leonard Peltier. He wants me to share it with all of
you. I guess I don't have to explain who Leonard is. He is a
descendant of one of the 38, White Dog. Leonard says this:
'That certainly is bad news
about Shelly, I just want you to know that I too am grieving
and sad to hear about her passing. I know this is hard for the
family as it is for any, so we grieve for there loss too. This
ride is good because what was done to the Dakotas was genocide
and the world should never forget. We need to make sure this
does not deter us from continuing as I'M sure Shelly would not
want this to happen.

Shelly Bausch was one of my
very best friends and spirit sister.
I want everyone to know how
proud Shelly was to be on that ride! I have taken great comfort
in knowing that is where she was and what she was doing when
she left this earth to be with spirit! I have been with Shelly
on her spiritual journey for many years and even though it is
a tragedy losing her. I KNOW it was so meant to be. This ride
was an inspiration and needs to continue for years and years
to come with NO overshadowing of her death. If anything it was
a blessing upon the ride! It entangles her spirit with the ride
and made many who love her aware of it. She will forever be
a warrior spirit guide watching over every rider! She just needed
to switch forms! so to those who were blessed to ride with her
that few days, I say CELEBRATE, do not be sad for her, for she
is joy, love, and perfection now! And you were all a part of
that! I send love and honor each and every one of you.
Services for Shelly Bausch will
be at the Concord Evangelical Free Church.in Concord Ne. Visitation
will be Friday, December 26, from 4-7 with a prayer service
starting at 7. Funeral will be at 10:30 on Saturday, December
27.

I want everyone to know that
the fall had nothing to do with her passing she had a small
seizure on the way home on sunday and stopped breathing and
we could not get her back but you guys gave her a great weekend

I am posting what I had on our
NICC website regarding Shelly. This gives alot of insight to
who she was and why she will be remembered.
I have been thinking about the
impact Shelly had at NICC. No, better yet I think she had an
IMPACT. She came to the Nebraska Indian Community College about
two and 1/2 years ago. She came in with a bang! Shelly was not
a quiet person at all. She had a zest for life, learning, adventure,
and anything else that came her way. Shelly was an inspiration
and took the time to get to know and relate to all those around
her. She was an outdoor person and loved all activities that
came her way.
Shelly was also the loudest
laugh heard at the college. I used to think mine was the loudest,
but then she came along and beat me hands down. She enjoyed
life to its fullest.She was the first person to say lets do
it and off the people would go like they were following the
Pied Piper.
She volunteered to go on many
trips and worked closely with many students. She considered
them all family. Everyone could always expect a smile and a
hello from Shelly. She was also a leader. Not only was she good
at getting people to do things, they actually enjoyed doing
them when she was involved. She always respected the students
and staff at NICC and was respected in return.
The only thing I can say is
Shelly has made history in more ways than one. I was informed
that she was the first fatality on the 38+2 Dakota Ride. I would
expect her to smile and say "I did it" I know that
she would be proud.
For those people at NICC, I
can only say that Shelly came into our lives with a bang, and
left us the same way. When I look at the stars at night, I know
she is up there watching us. We were very fortunate to have
her in our lives, even though it was a very short time.
Shelly has made many changes
throughout her time at NICC and has become one of the NICC family
and we greatly mourn her loss. I think that she was truly a
unique individual who brought us forward in many ways. I think
she was so special that she was needed somewhere else, so she
had to go.

to thank you for all the prayers and kind words. I was hoping
to meet some of you but our weather stood in the way. Our travel
will be short, only about an hour. I pray you all have beautiful
