Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial Ride 2014 - Day 8
Flandreau, SD to Pipestone, MN

Jackie Bird is a great role model, wonderful artist, performer and a very caring woman. The night before Chuck passed over in 2010, she came to the Little Feather Center where the riders are as I write this and she put on an impromtu concert for him and the family and friends who were there sitting with him. There were quite a lot of us. She also gave him an Eagle feather for his journey. He smiled as she sang and tried with all of his strength to lift the feather up to the music she was playing. He passed the following day and took the feather with him holding it tightly in his hand.

Today in Jackie's honor I will be featuring the girls and women riders and supporters of 2014.

Day 8 - Fast & Prayer
This morning I fast and pray for the medicine of "Strength". It is astounding yet not surprising how strength grows as a result of prayer. The Ride joins us all together. Holding hands in one circle - we are one. And as one, we are strong. Strength is the child of spiritual unity. Our faith grows stronger. Our convictions grow stronger. Our love for each other grows stronger. Our happiness and joy cannot be contained and our smiles give us away! May we take this strength that we are growing and hand it out to those who most need it. It is the currency of kindness

I would like to express my most heartfelt gratitude for this Ride. You may not realize it, but you are not riding just for the Dakota. You are riding for those who wronged you. Instead of carrying hatred and resentment in your hearts, you carry forgiveness and healing. This is the only possible way to reconciliation, and you are teaching the rest of us. I send prayers for you each morning and each evening: not only that all riders and ponies reach the end of the journey safely, but that your message is heard by those who need it most. Thank you.

I just wanted to say I met the unity ride in NY and I think it is wonderful and powerful healing by spreading awareness ! I feel you are all accomplishing great missions! The movie Dakota 38+2 brought tears to my eyes:). Jim Millers story about Vietnam resonated with me my brother and cousin were there the same time ! I was 4 and remember the nightmares my brother told me ! I am happy you found your peace as my brother is at rest ! Your good deeds will be rewarded with your heart and souls content ! Prayers for all safe journey ! We are all one

Dawn Cunningham Beard …because something is difficult surely does not mean it can't be done. Doing the most difficult things will offer the deepest results. Prayers for endurance, prayers for stamina, prayers for grit… be proud in those things because you Riders, runners and supporters lead by example. This is a holy thing.

Author Lynny Prince shared Tee Drappeau's photo.
A painting was posted earlier by someone in this group and when I saw it, tears stung my eyes. I saw something similar in a daydream the other day and felt I needed to share with you all.
Our Dakota 38 riders were galloping forward. The snow was blowing all around them. A light shown on them straight on, as headlights do while driving in snow. The ground was foggy/snowy, as in the painting. Thundersnow. Behind and beside the riders, the ancestors road out to join them. Modernly dressed Indians in the middle, (heavy coats, hats, gloves, facemasks) ancestors in regalia surrounding them like an escort. It was beautiful. I was not asleep, but was awake and seeing it with eyes open. It was the most amazing experience. Someone has offered to paint what I saw. I anxiously await the finished art work.
