Dakota 38 + 2 Memorial Ride 2013 - Day 7

Today is December 16th 2013, and the seventh day of the Ride when the Riders are having a rest day in Flandreau, South Dakota. If you look on the Community page below you can see information on the towns the Riders go to. (Minnesota is also on there now)

Just because the Riders have a rest today, doesn't mean the web page will have one. I have some pretty cool photos to show on here, that were taken by a friend of mine, Julie Carrow, who lives in Pipestone. Yesterday she went out to meet up with the Ride and came back with some fantastic photos. So thank you Julie for allowing us to use them on here. More will be shown tomorrow.

If you are wondering why there are not many actual horse photos on these main pages it is because they will have their own page at the end of the Ride. I am collecting the photos as they go along, trying to find out details on each one so that they can be honored as the Treasures they are.

I will continue adding the comments from the Face Book group members each day and any stories that come in from the Ride. At the bottom of the page you will see I will be adding extra pages, so please if you see a live link click on it to see what is on there.. Videos and positive items of interest are added to the left side column of the page as they come in.

As I sit here this day and read and watch the rider's and remember Jim Miller's dream, I am humbled by this ride. The powerful meaning has touched me every day. I follow every year as the rider's make their way. I offer , from me, an apology from my heart in what ever action or deed that any of my ancestor's have done to Native American's. I ask forgiveness for my ancestor's. It weighs heavy on my heart. I now follow and live this beautiful culture and I am thankful to those who have chosen to teach me. - Joy Maddox Dacus

Hihani waste to all family and relatives. I'm so full of gratitude for the riders and supporters, for my family, for my health and home and thankful for yours. It had been prophesied many years ago that our native people would be called upon to bring balance back into the universe. With all we've been through as a people we are still here and we still have the capacity to live, love and forgive. I am honored to know you all. - Alberta Iron Cloud Miller

I met Jim and Alberta Iron Cloud Miller on February 20, 2013 at the Heard Museum in Phoenix AZ. The film Dakota 38 + 2 was being shown. My friend had viewed the film and recommended that I see it. Said it was a part of my history. My mother Standing Rock Sioux, father Rosebud Sioux. I will never forget how this history impacted me. I will support Jim Miller's vision and pray for healing and reconciliation. - Rosetta Walker

Being part of this ride, if only on the internet, has been a deepening experience for me of opening hearts. I think of the hardships of the ride, the cold wrapping around the riders and their horses, and am grateful that they are doing this as ceremony, as a journey toward forgiveness and reconciliation. In my faith tradition, these days before December 25 are a time of preparing ourselves for celebrating the birth of Jesus, who came to give show us the Creator's unbounding Love. You all are giving a great gift to those of us out here. Our prayers of thanksgiving are for what you are giving to us and to the world. - Julia Kahrl
